A recent study has turned up some surprising things regarding NZ internet usage.
“Fresh data from AUT University, compiled for the World Internet Project places New Zealand as the country with the highest internet penetration of any of the countries surveyed.
Run out of California, the project compares internet use in 30 countries including the United States, Britain, Canada and Australia.” (NZ Herald, 10 August, 2008)
That certainly wasn’t my impression before now.

from what I could tell from the Herald article, the results are more of an indication of NZ society than anything else. Gender use for example. On page 2 it does acknowlege that NZ has a problem with a digital divide, which goes to the heart of the matter really. The AUT survey only sampled 1430 people. I think that’s a small number – even worse if that sample was gathered through the Internet!! was it?
